“Even in the Future the Story Begins with Once Upon a Time.”
My thoughts: This book was fantastic! The world building was great, the characters were likable, the relationships were realistic (if you count cyborgs and robots and Lunar people).
The cover is so plain but is basically what the main story focuses on. Cinder.
Characters: Cinder is a 16 year old girl who is a cyborg, but only in her arm and leg. If you met her you could probably think she was still a human, as she wears gloves on her hand and as such. She lives in New Beijing, after many wars. The society has changed gigantically.
There are now Lunars. They are people who live on Luna (the moon).
Another huge character in this book was Queen Levana, who lives on Luna but looks down at...people. She could be watching you right now.
Every single chapter she was in, I would cringe. She is such a disgusting person! Which makes the book more exciting. She is just so...vicious!
Prince Kai was the love interest in this book, and I loved his and Cinder's little thing. They never actually got together, but the relationship-building was fantastic, and I'm glad. I don't like books that are just 'hi' and then 'i love you'. Their relationship included lots of sarcasm, good conversations, and much more.
Throughout this book the two out of three characters were mentioned who are the other main characters of the following books. (Cress and Winter were mentioned).
As you may figure out, this story is a fairy retelling of Cinderella. But with a sci-fi twist. And a big one!
I'm glad that it only had tiny splats of Cinderella's aspects in the book, such as the evil Stepmother and the two stepsisters and her going to a ball. That's basically it.
Another thing they did was that one of the two stepsisters were good, which I liked.
Plot: The main plot of this book was basically Cinder dealing with her being Cyborg, and her meeting Prince Kai and getting close to him, and the deadly plague gong around. There wasn't really a MAIN plot.
There is a major plot twist at the end of the novel, and I did not expect it AT ALL! I suspect most people did, but I did not realize it.
I rate it 5 out of 5 stars, but it's more of a 95% for me. Sure, the book was great and action-packed. I mean, c'mon, I read it in a DAY (technically).
I enjoyed the second half of the book more than the first, as there was much more action involved. Meanwhile the first half was more information, which was still interesting enough to keep me reading.
I recommend this to everyone. If you like Sci fi, or even fairy tells, then pick it up.
TO BE HONEST, I haven't picked this up before...because...
ROBOTS.
Ew. Ew. Robots? Cyborgs? Metal people? Ew!
But trust me, just get past that, go on Amazon or the Book Depository and ORDER IT!
